Water ultrafiltration (UF) is a filtration process that uses standard home water pressure to push water through its semi-permeable membrane. Ultrafiltration (UF) removes viruses, bacteria, as well as suspended particles from your drinking water. Particles and materials of high molecular weight are unable to pass through the 0.02 micron UF membrane, so only fresh water and dissolved minerals get through. The UF membrane also has a high chemical resistance to oxidants and chlorine, compared to a TFC reverse osmosis membrane, which cannot tolerate any chlorine.

Benefits of ultrafiltration include keeping good minerals in your water without requiring a holding tank and producing no waste water. Ultrafiltration treatment runs at low water pressures, does not require a separate water holding tank, does not alter the pH of your water, and does not require electricity. The UF membrane is stable at a wide range pH levels. Historically, ultrafiltration has been used in large municipal water treatment plants and hospitals; however, technological advances enable you to install a powerful under-sink water filtration system in your home.
