A flow restrictor or flow control regulates the amount of water flowing from the reverse osmosis (RO) system into your drain.

Flow controls, or flow restrictors, control the amount of waste water that is going down the drain to increase the efficiency of a water filtration system. Flow controls are required for all reverse osmosis (RO) systems and must be properly sized to the RO membrane capacity, typically 3-4 parts brine to 1 part permeate.
Two common types of RO flow controls:
1. External Flow Controls: Installed on the brine water drain line by pushing the 1/4" tube firmly into the quick connectors.
2. Internal (capillary) Flow Controls: Installed inside the regular 1/4" drain tubing to restrict brine water flow by forcing it through a thin capillary tube.
