The 200 standard grade of steel is used as an inexpensive alternative to the 300 standard grade of steel. The 200 series contains less nickel reducing its corrosion resistance when compared to the 300 series. The 200 series is best suited for mild, corrosive environments such as indoor use or shielded areas. User should avoid highly corrosive environments with 200 standard grade of steel.
304 Screw (Series 87) vs. 410 Screw (Series 67)
The 304 screw (Series 87) has a high content of nickel. The 410 (Series 67) offers no nickel content. Type 304 (Series 87) when finished could be used where a non-magnetic material is required, where as the 410 (Series 67) cannot. The 304 (Series 87) screw rod is resistant to atmospheric corrosion and many organic chemicals and a wide variety of inorganic chemicals, while the 410 (Series 67) typically will resist corrosion in only light industrial and domestic environments.
