Well pressure tanks do not use a simple empty steel can; they use a flexible bladder or diaphragm inside the well water storage tank. Well water holding tanks contain an interior flexible bladder that flexes every time the water is used, so well pressure tanks are expected to wear out. Once the well storage tank bladder leaks, the tank reverts to a plain style of pressure tank.
